About

The Tour of the Rio Grande Bicycle Century is an annual cycling tour in New Mexico, USA. It continues a long tradition of cycling in the Rio Grande Valley for riders in the Southwest and beyond. It’s a fall ride, landing on the last Sunday of September.

The ride is the flattest in the state starting from the Bernalillo County / International Sunport Rail Runner Station off of Rio Bravo Blvd in the South Valley. It then goes south to Los Lunas, Belen and Bernardo where it loops back around. Optional distances are 39, 62, 80 and 100 miles. The 39 and 62 mile can be cut in half if the Rail Runner is taken back to start.

Started in April of 2019 by organizer/owner Michael O. Wieclaw, the ride has become a local favorite with 352 registrants in its first year. The ride was canceled in 2020, of course, but successfully re-emerged in September of 2021 with 320 registrants. There were 300 riders in 2022, 315 riders in 2023 and 345 riders in 2024.

In 2025, due to uncertainties in permitting, TORGBC has decided to make the ride, for this year only, a virtual tour. This encourages riders to participate in their own way on parts of the route in which they would like to experience. It also is a public message that the ride remains active and will continue to hold it’s place on the last Sunday in the month of the September.

“I’m humbled by the support of the New Mexico cycling community.” Says Wieclaw. “I pledge to give a quality and safe ride to participants.”
